Grant Alexander Austin
Since Laura was past 41 weeks, we had induced labor scheduled for Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. Well, it took me a while to wake up, so we got to the hospital around 6:30. We did some paperwork and basic IV stuff until about... 8:00 a.m.? Eventually they got the pitocin flowing and slowly ramped it up.
The contractions started to pick up around 10, and then the doctor broke the bag of waters at noon. After that, the contractions got REALLY intense.
We were lucky to have nurse Heather watching closely over us, because when Laura said that it was starting to feel more intense, she immediately checked her dilation. Laura was at 6.5 cm. Checking again ten minutes later, Laura made it to 8 cm, 90% effaced. So we called in Dr. Wong, who lightly reprimanded nurse Heather for calling her in before Laura was at 10 cm, 100% effaced. The delivery team left the room... only to be called in 5 minutes later because Laura made it to 10 cm in very short order. :)
Four pushes (and screams loud enough to wake the dead) later and our little boy was born! This birth was easier on me than Cecilia's: I cried and had to sit down from shaking too much, but at least I could still feel my extremities. :)

Laura was exhausted and shaky, but she did it again without medicine! All the tests have gone well, and "Little Brother" slept most of the first day.
Last night, however, he was crying all the time and nursing for an hour... about every hour. Laura and I were so tired we had to send him to the nursery to get some sleep. Luckily he gave us a peaceful 2-3 hours!
Breastfeeding is still hard, even though Laura's had 18 months of experience. Remembering how to hold an infant all while trying to teach a new baby how to latch is trying.
