Visiting Palmdale

The high today is 108... The high tomorrow is 111. o_O I'm tempted to fry an egg on the sidewalk.

Grant has roseola

On Sunday afternoon, Grant got a fever (about 101 degrees). He has some teeth coming in, so we just assumed it was from that, have him some children's Tylenol, and thought he would be feeling better by Monday. Well Monday came and went, and he still had a fever. Then Tuesday, his fever was slightly higher (102 degrees). But the pediatrician said it was probably a virus and to try to keep him comfortable with Tylenol or Motrin. Finally on Wednesday evening (after his fever getting up to 103 degrees), Grant's fever broke. Then when he woke up this morning he was covered in a rash. I took him to the pediatrician and it turns out that he has roseola. Sounds like the rash should be gone in a day or so, but he's not contagious anymore. I guess most kids have it at some point between 6 months and 2 years, although Cecilia never got it.  At least Grant seems to be feeling better now!

Summer reading program

Cecilia is participating on her first summer reading program through the Sunnyvale Library this summer. She is VERY excited to go to the library and has already read the required 10 books. So in August, Cecilia will be able to pick a new book to bring home with her! She seems like she will be a great book-lover, just like Mommy and Daddy!!

Wonder why the sprinkler head stopped working?

Maybe it's the dozen slugs? Snail shells? Rocks? The nail? The grass _growing roots_ inside?

Tricycle play date with Shayla

We had a tricycle play date with Shayla yesterday. The girls both brought their tricycles over to the playground and peddled away.

Here you can see Cecilia and Shayla on their trikes while Grant looks on from the stroller.

Lately, Grant has been enjoying going to Evelyn to hold while we are playing at the park. He went to her yesterday and was content to just watch Cecilia and Shayla for awhile while Evelyn held him.

The girls relaxing in our front yard after we came home from the playground.

Grant's Birthday Hat

Yesterday, we went to the party store to get some invitations, plates, napkins, decorations, etc. for Grant's birthday party in a couple weeks. While we were there, we found a party hat that says "Birthday Boy". I tried it on Grant, and he tolerated it long enough to get a couple pictures.

Painting with Shayla

Last Wednesday, Shayla and Evelyn invited us over to paint. The girls only painted for about 10 minutes before heading to play dress-up and pretend, but it was cute while it lasted!

Meanwhile, Grant was hanging out in the living room, getting into everything! And having a lot of fun doing it!

Grant in the cart

Yesterday, Grant rode in the seat of the cart for the first time! Previously, I always had him in his car seat in the basket of the cart or clipped into the stroller. However, he's big enough to sit without slouching now and seems to be pretty interested in looking around, so I thought it would interest him. He seemed to have a blast, and Cecilia had fun talking to him and showing him things. A win-win!

Oh, and Cecilia thinks its hilarious when Grant pulls off his socks in the car and eggs him on. Hence the lack of socks here. :)

Grant at the park

Grant is starting to play more and more on his own at the park. Here he is playing on the steps up to the slide earlier this week.

Grant's tear duct procedure

Yesterday we went to the doctor to get Grant's blocked tear duct fixed. They pushed a sterling silver probe down his duct and the Dr. said it was tight or blocked in three places. She said it never would have recovered on its own.

Then they pushed some yellow dye into his ducts and they know it worked if the due comes out of his nose.

The procedure only took three minutes but in the meantime Cecilia watched Cinderella in the movie room.

You can see Grant's slightly bloody nose in the last picture.

Dinner Disaster

Yesterday I wasn't feeling very well so I stopped at our local Asian supermarket on the way home to get some ramen noodles for dinner. Because I love shopping at Asian markets I also came home with $80 worth of other random things, including sea scallops. We fried them up in breadcrumbs tonight and Laura said they didn't smell bad but omg they tasted weird. Salty, oceany, kinda like seaweed. It was weird -- they tasted bad, but not fishy... We weren't sure if they were rotten or not so we threw them away. Hope we don't get sick!

Now it's time to get some ice cream to salvage the night.

Cecilia

After we got back from Bill Cosby, it was pretty late, so Cecilia was getting grumpy. She was in the tub looking in the mirror. What color is your hair? "Brown." What color are your eyes? "Blue." What color is your skin? "Red." What color are your teeth? "White." What color are my teeth? "White. And a little bit brown."

And when I kissed her goodnight she said "Daddy, tomorrow can you shave?"
